Red face Hello all, I've questions for you!

It started like this: I'm a film screenwriter and in order to justify production credits, avoid more writing and procastinate I decided, having attempted to use my late father's 1949 Voigtlander Vitesse that I needed to buy a camera. Never one to start with something 'sensible' I bought...a second hand Nikon D2x from ebay.
Here's the rub.. I paid 680 (body only with a Sandisk Extreme 4GB card), sounds great doesn't it? But stupidly I'd forgotten, during bidding frenzy, that it had a 100,000 activations.
Did I pay way too much? Are a 100,000 activations for this 2 year old ? Should I re-sell it?
Voila..a fool joins your laudable community and risks your resounding laughter.

Re: Hello all, I've questions for you!

Welcome to Pixalo Belluaire

If the camera has been treated reasonably well, it ought to be up to what you want from it. Pro cameras will often have shutter warranties of around 150,000 actuations, but that warranty is probably not transferable. The D2x has excellent build quality so is tough enough to take normal wear and tear in its stride.

As to the price you paid, I don't know what the 'going rate' is, but it sounds reasonable.

Re: Hello all, I've questions for you!

Hi there - welcome

That is about 140 pictures each day for two years. I assume that this was used by a pro or a really dedicated amateur who took a lot of holidays.

At this link

Grays of Westminster - Second Hand Nikon Equipment

they are selling secondhand DX2 bodies for 900 so your price sounds OK.

As Dabhand said this camera will probably be OK as they were really intended for the pro market. If you are really worried it would be worth talking to Nikon to see if they can service it or check it out and set your mind a rest.

Now you have the body you just need a lens or two

D2X is a cracking camera & others have said they can take the shutter count, so I say get out there & enjoy it
