Hello everyone and please advise
Hello,
I have a Canon EOS 300 film camera body which is rather 'primitive' compare to the newer and more advance EOS film camera bodies. If I buy an expensive lens such as EF 17-40 f/4 or EF 55mm f/1.2 to put on it, will the images produced be of the same or similar quality as using the lens on a more advance and expensive film camera body? In other words are there any differences in terms of outcome between using a cheap Canon camera body and an expensive camera body if I use an expensive lens??

Re: Hello everyone and please advise
Hi, and welcome to Pixalo. I'm not sure on this but I would have thought it shouldn't matter. After all a film camera is just a mechanism for controlling the amount of light hitting the film. What might matter is the condition of the camera - is the shutter working properly etc. A film guru might give you a more accurate answer.

Re: Hello everyone and please advise
I have an EOS 300 which I used to use as a backup to my 50E and also for black-and-white film. I have never seen any difference in results between the two cameras, it is just that with the added functionality the 50E is easier to use.
It's possible that if you were doing close-up work then the autofocus on a lower priced camera might perform a bit less smartly but if you were getting into macro territory you would most likely be looking at manual focusing anyway. |

Re: Hello everyone and please advise
i am not an expert but i would say its more a combination of hte lens AND the person taking the shot that results in an excellent image. even using a top of hte range Lens on a basic body needs a decent photographer behind the body to create the shot.

Re: Hello everyone and please advise
Hi hamsty!
![]() As already said, there will be no difference in quality assuming that the EOS 300 is working OK. The more expensive film SLRs like the 50e had additional features, and more metal and less plastic in the body, but the lens and the film are the critical components. If you do buy something like the 17-40L (recommended!) you'll also be able to use it on any Canon digital SLR if you make that move in the future, although the field of view will be different by a factor of 1.6 on all but the 5D and the 1D series.
