Hello from New England

Hello Everyone,

I am Peter and I joined the pixalo forum earlier this week because I wanted to read through the tutorials (I was looking for some help with up-resing one of my pictures). It appears to be a nice community here, so I figure I'll stick around a bit and laern from you guys. And maybe I can even contribute the one or other useful bit myself.

Am I supposed to tell you about myself? I guess so:
I live in New England, near Boston actually, and like it a lot. I grew up and went to school in Germany, then lived in Los Angeles for a few years, and now Massachusetts feels like home. In my professional life I am a scientist at MIT -- my field is X-ray crystallography. If you are interested check it out by clicking here. I am a chemist by training, worked as a structural chemist in molecular biology in Los Angeles, and now I am once again in a chemsitry department.

With the little free time my job leaves me I like to take pictures (that's why I am on this forum), cook, make music and read. I have been taking pictures since I was 12 years old or so. My first SLR was a used semi-automatic Yashika with one lens (Yashika 50mm f/1.4 -- an outstaning piece of glass); I got it when I was 17 I think. I never got arount to buying a second lens and I sold this camera when I left Germany. Together with the camera I sold my dark room equipment and I have been missing it since. In Los Angeles I bought my first Nikon (N80) and some Nikkor lenses and a little less than a year ago I went digital with the D200. The wonderful world of digital photography has almost made me forget that I am missing my drakroom. CS2 has replaced the filters and timers, the cardboard stripes and chemicals and I finally have control over the picture again. More control than ever, I must say. I was rather reluctant to buy my first digital camera, but I love it now.

Hi Peter - welcome to Pixalo. New England? Know it well...I have a lot of folks over there mainly round Weirs Beach and Laconia but also Boston and Manchester. Never been with my camera though - looking forward to seeing some shots.
