Hello newbie here needing some help on the interfit ex150

Hi all Dave here
I'm fairly new to photography and have just purchased a canon 400d with 18-55, and 90-300 and also got the nice battery grip so im pleased with the way it looks and feels. I also bought an interfit ex150 home studio flash kit to try out some portrait shots. I set it up but am not really pleased with the shots i took.

Im seeking your kind help

Could someone give me a rough set up on it, ive got a blacked out room no outside lighting coming in and ive set the background up could do with a few tips

how far from the background should i place the subject (now bored girlfriend) and roughly how far from the (now bored girlfriend) should the lights be?

do i leave the modeling lights on when shooting?
roughly what exposure and appature should i be looking at?

I hope im not being to pushy asking these questions and can appreciate that every situation is different but i thouht that having a blacked out room then things should have gone well but they didnt. If any of you guys/girls could give me a few pointers i would be most gratefull.

Thanks for now

Davetherave

ps anyone wanting to come round and photograph the now bored girlfriend and actually show me is more than welcome i live not far from Liverpool

Hi, Dave and

In the interests of attempting to unbore the gf, maybe you should post some shots for us to see!

See you started another thread, so will leave this one as the welcome one!

Re: Hello newbie here needing some help on the interfit ex150

Not sure if I am correct, but do your images come out under exposed if so use the camera in manual as the flash on a lot of modern cameras fire a preflash(for exposure reasons)which sets of the heads before the shutter on the camera is ready so you are getting the tail end of the exposure or a band across the image, this is assuming you are using the slave function on the flash heads and not with a cable from the camera. If you are using the slave function then set the on camera flash on a low setting so that it does not affect the image unless you want it to of course. Settings on the flash heads are by trial and error and experience. Have a start point and go from there, good luck.

Regards

David
