Hello from the north...well, Yorkshire
Hi, My name's Rick/Rich/whatever,
I've been recommended these forums by one of your members (you know who you are ), and I'm pleased to say that everyone seems friendly and helpful. Some of the "other" forums can be a bit intimidating to a relative newbie, but I'm sure I'll pick up some great tips here...hopefully without being made to look too daft .I have a D70 and basic Sigma 70-300 zoom. Maybe one day I'll get that 120 - 300 f2.8 Sigma ! Mainly, I like motorsport and nature type shots, but am going to try some different things. Thanks to Matty for setting up my gallery. Rich |

Hi Rick.
No-one will make you feel daft here, we all had to start somewhere, so if you have a question never be afraid to ask away, and rest assured this is going to be the best photography forum on the 'net.

Hi there, and welcome!
I also shoot motorsport with a D70. I used to use a Sigma 70-300 APO, but now I have the Sigma 120-300 2.8. Ive only been to one event with it so far. Its of very high quality, but its damn heavy! I have sampl pics if you are interested.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.
Joe T, yes the Sigma is the lens I'm interested in, but (if/when I buy) I'm also thinking about the Nikon 70-200VR - both about the same £££, but the Nikon has VR, the Sigma has the extra reach...its going to be a tough decision. |

The zoom facility of the Sigma is incredibly useful for motorsport. A 300mm prime would have been far more limiting. The Sigma is a great lens! http://www.thephotographyforums.com/...ead.php?t=4566 This thread contains pics from my first time out with the lens. The light wasnt great really. I posted the EXIF info for all the pics in a post further down the htread.

Thanks everyone.
Joe T, that sounds like good advice. Prob best to ask a shop like Jessops to get both in and have a go with both (they said they'd do that if I was interested). - Only problem is how bad I'd then feel if I went and bought from Hong Kong instead. P.S nice pics in that thread you posted. Bet you can't wait to try it out in some better light in the spring. |
