Hi from down town Broken Hill

Well I finally got a SLR camera I have owned several Point and shoot cameras

I have owned 2

FinePix S2000HD FinePix E550 Zoom

Both amazing camera s and they have given me a fantastic introduction to photography and I have learned a lot now I have been able to get a

Panasonic DMC G2 with 2 lens pack so back to learning again

I live in a remote mining town on the Border of South Australia and New South Wales and it is amazing aray of colors as well as lots of wild life

we are in a amazing part of the cycle of the out back after 3 years of little rain we finally got some and the transformation is totally amazing so I hope to get as many shots as I can before it all drys up

Welcome to Pixalo cram it frog

You certainly get extremes in your part of the world and I'm sure that you will be taking full advantage of this part of the cycle. Looking forward to seeing more.

Take a look around and if you have any questions, please ask

Re: Hi from down town Broken Hill

dabhand16 thanks I am from the UK I moved here when I was 12 from Glasgow and I am not 59 so I do not rember too much from the UK would love to get over there but I have been told by a GP who was visiting from the UK that I would not last the distance in cattle class travel

I had a accident and had one disk removed and one badly damage , I often go to the specialist in Adelaide by car that is 500ks and it takes me long time as I have to stop every so far stretch out before driving on

with the new car I am hoping I can go a little further it is an Automatic and much more comfertable ypu have to be on your toes all the time it is remote place we travel but lots of wild life and lots of Kangaroo,s who just jump out in front of you

Re: Hi from down town Broken Hill

I guess that the huge distances are what makes Australia Australia, and living in a remote location will have its own issues and advantages too.

We have several members from Scotland so you will get to see some of the sights on here if you are unable to actually visit the UK. I'm told the journey is quite gruelling, even for those of us fortunate enough to be in good health.

500km just to see a specialist With the price of fuels here most people would baulk at the thought of going 50km. Hope it's worth the trip

Re: Hi from down town Broken Hill

grease spot yes expensive but the government pays a allowance for remote community to get medical help you get paid for fuel and accommodation as well as food is all paid for .

We pay $1.60 for unleaded and $1.70 for super premium fuel and $1.80 Diesel Fuel. $1.70 to $1. 80

$1.60 = 0.89 pence or 1 uk pound = $1.80 Australian

now there is a very expesive way
By RFDS Royal flying doctor when I hurt my back I was taken to hospital that day

cost
trip by ambulance to hospital $200 15 minutes
trip to airport by ambulance $200 18 minute
Flight in air ambulance from Broken hill to Adelaide $6000 1 1/2 hours
Trip by Ambulance from Adelaide airport to RAH hospital $200

all covered by my health insurance expensive day out

and I came home same way at the same cost 6 days later

Re: Hi from down town Broken Hill

dabhand16 Australia run on a metric system 1 gallon is 3.78 liters

My new car will be a lot more expensive I now have a 6 cyl ford fairmont with air conditioning so I am not sure how much but I can get to Adelaide and back on 2 tanks of fuel with some left in the tank in my old 4 cyl magna wagon that cost $100 just under to fill here but in Adelaide you can buy fuel 30 to 40cents cheaper that here if you drive across the Nullarbor it can cost $2.20 to $2.70 per liter because it is a remote plays driving to Adelaide to Perth is 2000 kilometers expensive but no bus only train or aircraft

Re: Hi from down town Broken Hill

The trip to the specialist was actually a wast of time they took the wrong images of my back the nuro surgeon wanted some special die injected in my system to see what condition the facet joints are like

I have had a lamonectomy S1L5 that is a disk removed and the disk above is now torn and damged unfortunately they did not know that the removal of a disk could cause some damage but at the level I have the disk removed is the part that moved the most so the stress put onto the disk has caused major tearing and joint damage

The suggested I just come back next week we cannot afford that because we have to pay for the trip firsts then make a claim you can get a cash advance in a emergency but it does not cover the full cost so we are looking at going down Christmas time

Living in a place like this where the closest town is 350ks away and that is medium size regional town called Mildura has its draw backs but the over all life style is worth it .

No trip in town is over 15 minutes every one is easygoing going max speed is 50kilometers per hour so you can drive for two or three weeks with one fuel tank and the pace is just so laid back it will put years onto your life rather that what I saw on Top gear the other day trying to park a two big cars in London what a stressful life style.

but it is not for every one cable Tv saves the day some times lol
