I am a new boy here

Hi folks my landing here started when i was and still am searching for a method to find and install new 1.1 firmware on my new Lumix DMC-TZ10 as the Panasonic site has the new firmware but does not give details about drivers or how to actually install the new firmware.
I suppose i could get a shop to do it, but i have done it on many of my cell phones and perhaps i can also do it on this Lumix.

Previously i used a Canon Power shot A520 4 megapixal camera, but i decided to give it to my wife when her old camera that requires a film roll did not perform well during our recent visit to Fiji Islands for our neices wedding, it was lucky i took along my old Canon. i may actually load a couple of pics that i took.

Anyway i am here and i have yet to have a good look around but i should be hanging around as i have always had an interest in photography and i may learn something as my knowledge is limited to say the least.

Thank you for the welcome Dabhand, yes i have loaded the firmware to every different conceivable part of my formatted SD card and followed the guiding proceedures and still the camera will not activate the install firmware window frame as the instructions show ie
DMC-TZ10/ZS7 Firmware update service (Without DMC-ZS7GK) | Digital Camera | Digital AV | Consumer Products | Support | Panasonic Global

Maby i will try and download the firmware for the third time as the specified file size of 16592,384 has not been correct with my downloads of the firmware from this Panasonic site, it has been close though, even so i am not sure exactly where to load it on my SD i think i have tried just about every location available, so maby it could be an issue with it not containing the exact number of bytes as the above link specificies for the DMC-TZ10.

Its nearly 1 am here in Brisbane Australia so i had better give up and sleep on it so i will see you around and thanks for your help.

Re: I am a new boy here

I have tried loading the 1.1 firmware for my Lumix DMC-TZ10 onto a blank SD memory card that had not been formatted by the camera and when turning the camera on this message comes on the screen " Firmware must be in .BIN FILE.

Now after formatting the SD card with the camera as the download instructions dictate i have these choices of areas where to load the firmware

DCIM - Pana

PRIVATE
AVCHD
AVCHDTN
BDMV
CLIPINF
PLAYLIST
STREAM
IISVPL
Any ifo if available will be apprecated as the current firmware on my Lumix DMC-TZ10 is version 1.0 and the update version is 1.1 which is said to make the camera more stable at startup ? and it also is reported to improve the flash.
thanks.

Re: I am a new boy here

Thank you for the welcome P-E, I am from downunder but i did spend from 1979-1982 living and working in Bradford West Yorkshire sometimes i would drive lorries of car parts around the UK including Ilford, Dagenham, and the Ford plant near Liverpool it was a great life and made many friends, but the weather was just a tad to bleak for me to remain as i was brought up in the tropics of Northern Australia, sheers

Re: I am a new boy here

SUCCESS is mine TA Ra Ta Ra, I obtained the DMC-TZ10 downloaded firmware that i obtained from the above mentioned and pasted up Panasonic site by dabhand16.

I did put it into a folder on my PC and after having no success in it working by moving IT to a SD card formatted by my TZ10 and installing the SD into my camera, i tried another approach, with moving it back onto my PC and then by right clicking onto it and a box opened up, it was called Win RAR self-extracting archive so it was just a matter of selecting a folder to store the resulting TZ10 V1.1 .BIN FILE in.

This 1.1 .BIN FILE has the correct number of bytes 16,592,384 which is mentioned on the Panasonic site's download recommendations for this firmware 1.1 update.

I then proceeded to move this v1.1 .BIN FILE onto a SD card that i had just previously had formatted on my Lumix DMC-TZ10 camera, i did not place it in any of the included application folders on this SD card and it automatically ended up separately on top of the other application folders written into the card.

I then proceeded to put this SD card into the camera with the camera being turned off and the REC/PLAY switch down in the PLAY position, turned the power switch on and then i just followed the onscreen prompts for formatting which took about 10 seconds.
I had the dial mode in the P position throughout the opperation.

Re: I am a new boy here

Well done Terry!

Perseverance pays off!

I'm sure that when I've updated the firmware on my cameras, the file has to go in the root directory rather than in a folder, and would have told you that - but as you have cracked it yourself, that is all that matters!

Thanks for posting the detailed way you got there - it will benefit others, I'm sure - and that is what Pixalo is all about.
