New D80, tips needed

Hi Folks,

Just got a D80, well pick it up this weekend really, and I wanted to know if you had any tips on changing the default settings to make it better than it is out of the box.

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Re: New D80, tips needed

Well firstly for optimum shots to play with in Photoshop or equivalent, I would suggest shooting RAW. This means you don't have to worry about all the settings for images on the camera, as they only effect JPEG shots.

Once in your photo editing software you have full flexibility to make the the most of each shot based on it's own merits.

Hope that helps

Re: New D80, tips needed

I just got my D80 and can say I have not used JPEG since charging the battery.
I had a quick play with JPEG this morning and can say that at the default settings the out-of-camera pictures require very little manipulation other than unsharp mask.

The short of it is, set the qual to JPEG L (large) set the mode dial to P mode and fire away.

You can learn the other features as you go along.

Re: New D80, tips needed

Thanks for the advice. When I get my dirty paws on the thing at the weekend, I'm charging the battery whilst reading the manual, then it's click, click, click all the way home. ;o)

Thanks for all your welcome messages.

OK I'll post all my pics in WebShots anyway, but I'll post some of the best ones here.

I'll also let you know what I think of the camera from a complete DSLR novice.
