Good morning,
Hello, ladies and gentlemen. My name is R. C. Wilson and I live in Jet, Oklahoma. Hope to take a really good look around the website in the next couple of days and hope to hear from everyone. I just stumbled on to this community in the late night, but looks like some interesting things going on. I'm into monochrome and want to upgrade to an entry level DSLR that shoots monochrome. Something a year or two old and around 6-8megapixels would work. I've aiready checked into a Nikon D50, but it doesn't have the monochrome setting. Any suggestions? I've been using a Panasonic DMC-FZ10 & FZ30, but just doesn't have the resolution that I'm looking for. Well gotta go, everyone have a good day. ![]() |

Re: The New Kid In Town
Hi Bluesman - a welcome to Pixalo from me too.
I'd like to re-enforce what Sonsey said about shooting in mono. Doing this means you will not be capturing as much image info as you would by using colour. It is easy to convert to mono in processing, but if you do not have all of the tonal info in your original file, you will not get a good mono image, and you will be limited in what you can do to it. Greyscale is limited to 245 tones (I think), but colour has thousands. We have members who have produced good mono images using the D50, and that's not to say that any other camera could not do the same. I've got some good monos taken with a five year old compact that has no mono settings. Check out my New York and mono albums.

Welcome to Pixalo
Fellow monochrome fan here & agree with others here to process Mono on the PC. Hopefully this link won't scare you off :- Converting colour photos to black and white using Photoshop |
