Welcome to Pixalo

There are quite a few cameras in your price range made by all of the major manufacturers, and in truth, most of them will offer similar specifications at similar price points. Reveiws are OK up to a point, but often they are just one person's opionion.

Some will have subtle differences, for instance the speed that they write information into the memory. This is more important for sports and action use, so if this is something you might be interested in, it is worth considering in the mix of features.

It is very important that the camera feels comfortable to hold, and that the settings (even if you don't know what or how to use them) are quick and easy to select and change. For instance, I find that a menu system is slow and cumbersome, and I like to be able to push a button and/or turn a wheel. You might find the opposite.

It is always best to actually get your hands on the cameras to see exactly how they feel and how easy they are to use. Get a short list of about three and see if members can give you ant pros and cons on them.

Hi - and welcome to Pixalo. I have the 30D and can highly recommend it. You can see the basic spec and some member reviews in our Equipment Reviews Forum. If you shoot sport then this probably has the best fps and a phenominal range of lenses to go with it.

Although, as Graham implied, there are no bad cameras in this price range just slightly different features, specs. Get your hands on a few

I have a 20D and love it. although I still have my old Olympus and use it too.

thanks to all for replying, all very welcome comments. just find it hard to move away from the old but even us old dogs can learn new tricks.

i found the 30d very simple camera to pick up and use, as i will be mainly taking scenery or wildlife pics and maybe the odd sports, i think a range of lenses would be more beneficial rather than a all singing and dancing body. again thanks to all for your welcome comments and advice.
