Warwick Newbie
Hi there! Bit nervous about posting as I'm a complete novice. Anyway here goes, I'm based in Warwick in the midlands, have always loved photography but never pursued it other than a bit of a past time with my hubbie, but really want to get to grips with all that I need to learn and the lingo. Love landscape photgraphy but also flower photography including close ups and working with limited depth of field.
I have a Nikon F80 and errrr yes its a film camera, I gave up I suppose because the learning curve is so much slower and I'm not very patient, I like to take a pikkie, take it home and drool over it and start doing things with it straight away lol. Plus I want to be more creative and play around with imaging on the computer etc. so a digital SLR is my dream but not yet unfortunately. Any advice on courses, books, etc would be great. |

Welcome.
the F80 is a good camera, and the new nikon D50 or D70s are fantastic, and your existing lenses will work on the newer Dslr's , do you have a digital compact camera ? if so, they can be great learning tools at a fraction of the cost of a Dslr , and can give great results from some of the ' better ' brands enjoy the site MyPix |

Yeah good to have some female enthusiasts eh!
Funny as I was thinking of getting the D70s at some point. Unfortunately I've not even got a digicam compact can't make up my mind which one to get. I want something small but that offers a few features to pacify until I can get an SLR. Aperture and shutter priority, spot metering that sort of thing, and something that is excellent for macro work. Any ideas??

Hello
![]() There are many compact digital cameras that will do the main things you are looking for. Cheaper cameras are usually slower in operating -start up time (like a computer booting up the camera has to startup), focus speed (and hence how long before it takes a picture after you press the button) and write times (how long before it lets you take another picture)....etc. So it might be an idea to say what your budget is so we can suggest some options. Also any size preference? - pocket size or larger body. |
