Little owl & Kingfisher

Last Friday I popped to a local nature reserve (even though it was bucketing down with rain) and was treated to seeing the kingfisher on arrival! I just had time to take 3 pics (this is the 'best') before he flew off!

Then this morning the little owl I posted a picture of last week was back on the same telegraph pole so this time I stopped before reaching him and inched forward and took this photo

Was so pleased to see him again so soon!

Better all the time. I've never got a good kingfisher or owl shot. From where I sit, you're doing great.

Marjus ... great shot again of the small owl!
Any idea what this one is named? We have similar ones here (never saw one though): looks a lot like our Pygmy Owl.
I am totally jealous too!!

Re: Little owl & Kingfisher

Thanks Lew for your encouraging comments!!

JP, thank you! The owl is called simply a 'little owl' in the UK, latin name: Athene noctua.

Re: Little owl & Kingfisher

Great little Owl
Looks like a right miserable day though
I hope you don't mind
Shadows / highlights and "match colour" for slightly more vivid colours.
A halo is just starting to appear
but you would probably have more luck with the original
If you don't like it say so and its nuked

Before

After

Re: Little owl & Kingfisher

wow nice capture Marjus, to see both on the same day and to get a shot and good ones at that nice one, the best ive got is a fleeting glimpse of a kingfisher skimming down the river Don one afternoon, and far to fast to get the camera out of the bag . Im sure that place is going to be one of your regular hunting spots for the future

Re: Little owl & Kingfisher

Nice pictures Maria, I usually just see a flash of blue and realise that was a kingfisher. What luck seeing a Little Owl on the same day

What a great pair! The Kingfisher made all the sweeter by going out in less than ideal conditions

Re: Little owl & Kingfisher

Thanks CGS! Amazing what can be done with software!! I do like your version but agree that it would be probably better worked on the original! Will have to get permission to download Gimp on the work PC so I can have a play!!

Thanks Kevin, Jake and Mark! I most certainly will be making very regular visits to this nature reserve! There is another post just a little bit closer to the hide so will hope to 'catch' the kingfisher on it one day!!
