This is another lens that sits in my arsenal of lenses and in truth doesn't come out that often, I take it with me when I go to a few airshows as it's a tad lighter than the 80-400 plus it gives me another 100mm in the length dept. I like to use it as a push pull focus lens as with the aircraft buzzing around the sky it's a bit quicker than using the twist grip.
I've also used this lens for motorsport when I need a long focal length, it's also very good for moon shots as with that 86mm end glass it lets in bucket loads of light. For me I like to use this lens with my mono pod for motorsport as I can concentrate on the push pull for focal length, after a while this lens does get a bit heavy after a long days shoot. If you're going use this lens at an airshow my advice would be take plenty of breaks to rest your arms. On a whole I have been very happy with the results that I've been getting from this lens to date. Altough I've rated this lens only as a 6 don't let that put you off, this is one of those lenses that you won't use that often.
There's no O/S nor does it have the EX range of glass and there's no HSM either, but it's now been upgraded from standard glass to DG glass. You can use the 1.4 and 2.0 X TC's but only in manual mode.
Downsides
No O/S
No EX
No HSM

Love the push pull focus (not sure if I should use it like that but it works for me)
It's long focal length.
Great lens for Airshows, Motorsport, Wildlife.
