Good points - Fast, superb quality, lovely bokeh, removable tripod collar makes handholding a lot easier, price
Bad points - Slightly heavy when used all day
Only sold mine as I wanted the VR offered by the equivalent Nikkor. Was VR worth an extra £500 on top? Yeah but if you're on a budget then this lense is definitely the one to have.

Have only reeled off about a 50 shots on this lens so far, but very impressed. Super sharp shots, smooth quiet focusing & a real feel of quality about the whole thing.
Price paid is current price I could get for from HK incl VAT, as I bought this s/h

I bought this lens second hand and it's very rarely been off the camera.
I have no complaints whatsoever for image sharpness or operation but the thing which gave immediate cause concern is now becoming more apparent.
That was the finish, which on mine is now peeling at some of the "sharp" edges. I'm not particularly hard on equipment, I think, but it does have to face pretty challenging conditions on a regular basis.
I haven't heard of this before so it may well be a one off but it's the only weakness I've found in an excellent lens

I have to admit this has to be one of my fav lens, as it's never really off the camera body, this is one of those lenses that you feel at home with straight away. When it's not being used then it's never more than an arms length away in my camera bag.
I've used this lens so many times at Brands Hatch with and without my 2x TC as the range of this lens is just right for anywhere from Paddock round Druids and Graham Hill bends, I've never really felt that I've push this lens to it's limit. I've tried others lenses at Brands Hatch but I don't feel as confident nor as comfortable as I do with this 70-200mm. This is one of those lenses that you can have on the camera all day and suffer no arm ache after.

Remove the tripod collar if you're not going to be using a tripod as this gives more lens to hold and giving you better lens control.
Even if you're not a motorsport nut this is a lens for all things photography, I've walked up and down the coast at Lowestoft many many times with this lens on my camera and never once felt that I should or need to change the lens.
You can use the 2xTC to give you a boast to 140mm-400mm and still keep AF at f5.6 throughout the focal length, remember to add any sensor crop factor depending on make and model of your camera.
You can use the 1.4x TC giving you a smaller boast to 98mm-280mm at f4 AF throughout the focal length, remember to add any sensor crop factor depending on make and model of your camera.
With inner focus the overall length of the lens doesn't change, zooming in and out with the twist grip is both easy and very smooth allowing you to get the right amount of zoom with minimum amount of fuss and bother, along with EX glass, HSM giving a near silent AF and it's black finish makes this lens a very attractive option.
Downside only one
The only thing that I can thnk of is no O/S but being that it's a fast f2.8 lens anyway you could argue why would you want O/S anyway????

This lens has now been upgraded to include the macro option so this may push the price a little higher.
