This is well up with Canon L glass in terms of sharpness and build quality. Autofocusing is relatively slow because of the low gearing which helps fine adjustments in MF mode, although you can select either the full range or two partial ranges which speeds things up.
The weight may or may not be an issue. If you are used to some of the larger L-series lenses this is a tiddler by comparison, but at about 1kg it is twice as heavy as some of the alternatives. On the other hand the 150mm focal length is great for insect shots. Remember that the closest focusing distance (380mm in this case) is measured from the subject to the sensor/film plane, NOT to the front of the lens. The Sigma 150mm projects approx half this distance from the film plane, so there is only 190mm between the subject and the lens at 1:1 magnification (and that's without the hood fitted). Unlike some macro lenses, focusing is internal and the lens does not extend.
Accepting that it is quite chunky, I can't really fault it and would recommend the Sigma 150mm to anyone wanting a macro lens with a bit of extra reach.
