Description:
|
Revolutionary downsizing "XR" technology employed by Tamron in the development of high-power zoom lenses such as the 28-200mm and 28-300mm, is translated into the design of the 28-75mm f/2.8 making this lens possibly the smallest and lightest in its class. Its compactness makes it look and feel like an ordinary standard zoom lens, yet has the versatility that a fast constant maximum aperture offers.

Pros:
|
Image quality - superb, weight, includes a lens hood.

|
Cons:
|
Would have loved it to be 24-75. Can't fault anything else.

I was looking to upgrade some of my glass as I've been getting more paying work (so image quality is paramount). A few people recommended I looked at the Tamron before I spent money on L series glass. I'm so glad I did! I compared it to the 24-105L and wasn't pleasantly surprised. The Tamron was as sharp out the camera and although lacking the IS I decided the f2.8 was more important to me.
This lense is an absolute steal at this price. The only thing I would urge caution on is I have heard of people who've had dud's out of the box, so if you can test before you buy

Pros:

Tack sharp, weight, price, constant f/2.8.
|
|
Cons:
|
Build quality a bit lacking, Focus motor noise, Not quite wide enough.

I've been using this lens for allmost a year now and am pleased with it's results.
The plus points... This really is a sharp lens, compairable to other models 3 times the price, contrast is good also, only needing a slight boost under certain conditions. Very light in weight compaired to other models from Canon and Sigma, handy if you use it as a walkabout lens. F/2.8 means you can get good results in quite low light aswell and quite shallow depth of field.
The negative points... Build quality, while not bad, isn't up to simular model from Canon and Sigma. Focus noise can be a bit distracting, it is however relativly quick to lock on and only hunts occasionly in low light. I find 28mm on the wide end just isn't wide enough sometimes, this just stops it from being the perfect walkabout lens on a 1.6 crop factor body.
Despite it's faults the image quality can only be beaten by spending 3 times as much IMO.

Pros:

Small, compact, Sharp when stopped down
|
|
Cons:

Slightly soft at f/2.8

Got this to replace my 35-70 f/2.8 Nikkor -
Its a good walkabout lens - light, compact and sharp from f/4
However -
Not sharp wide open - the Nikkor 35-70 is
Colours don't "pop" like the nikkor
Pictures lack the depth of the Nikkor
It is a good lens for the money but once you have used the 35-70 f/2.8 there is no going back.
I have sold this and will get another Nikkor
