Same as the 486 but equipped with a 200PL-14 quick-release camera plate. The 486RC2 is a direct replacement of the 308QR and 168S ProBall and Heavy-Duty Double Action Ball Heads.
A strong die-cast construction, precision machined aluminium housing, and an extremely hard phenolic resin ball provides smooth movements across all tilt positions.
The 486RC2 features a single ratchet locking knob for 360° pan and a double groove for +90°-90° tilt movements. Camera plate has a 1/4-20" male thread, and head to tripod attachment is 3/8" female.

This is the first ball head I have used with my camera. It is very functional and easy to use.
When I first got it, I found it a bit wobbly and it seemed like the QR mechanism almost needed a breaking in period. On hindsight, it may indeed have been me that needed the breaking in, but the effect was the same. The latch was difficult to push forward far enough to get a rock solid seat. But once it loosened up (or I got pushier!) it was just fine.
Now that I have had it a while, I like it more and more. It is stable, I feel very secure with my camera on it. The double lock is a very nice feature too, one more level of security.
The QR truly is quick and easy to use. So nice to be able to leave the plate on the camera when using a tripod a lot.
It is fairly light weight, and the ball mechanism is smooth and pretty friendly to small adjustments. On a really solid tripod, you can maintain quite a bit of friction on the ball so that controlled minute adjustments are possible.
I have used it on a number of different tripods with good results.

Received this for Christmas 2007 to go with the 190XPROB tropid which I bought myself.
This is first ball head I have owned and thought it would take a long time to get used to but after the first outing, it is a breeze. So much easier than a tilt and pan head on my old Velbon tripod.
Build quality is excellent, top plate the same. The only issue is that you ahve to ensure the top plate locking lever is locked by using the small lever underneath, if not, then you can easily release the top plate resulting in camera and lens falling off.
I can thoroughly recommend this product and have since bought a 484RC2 to go on my monopod.
