Description: The Canon Speedlite 580EX replaces the popular Speedlite 550EX model. A more powerful flash with a maximum guide number of 58/191 at ISO 100 in metres/feet (at 105mm focal length), faster recycling, more consistent colour and enhanced controls are among the improvements that all photographers, especially those who shoot digital, will find useful. It features a more comfortable and easy to use interface in a smaller and lighter package than its predecessors.

Pros: ease of ues
Cons: I have yet to find one

Well I upgraded to the 580 ex a couple of months ago and im delighted with this flashgun, It really does make flash photography a breeze.
On the previous model (550ex) doing fill flash was at times a bit of a pain as the flash unit would simply pump out far to much light giving blown highlights and meaning that you had to check each shot after it was taken, the 580 simply gets it right 100% of the time (so far) this means that I can get on with my photography and not worry about the flash.
One other thing I have noticed but don't advise you do, is that I don't have to worry when it ****es it down with rain either, im sure it doesn't have any waterproofing at all but it kept working for me in torrential rain at the tour of GB in Sheffield recently.
The recycling time for it is also faster than the older model.
I used to dread doing flash photography simply because of the inconsistent results that I got but with this flash unit I really dont have a second thought about it. indoors outdoors fill flash it just works and about time might I add,
If you can't tell from this I like this flashgun
Even on close up shots this flash unit gives great results.
