Giottos 5570 P-Pod Monopod
· Four sections
· Folded Height: 64mm
· Maximum Height: 177mm
· Weight: 1.62kg
· Load: 15kg
It's made of solid and sturdy aluminum alloy. The surfaces are carefully polished twice to give its leg sections smooth and firm locking or unlocking action. Finally, it is anodized, preserving the distinctive look of aluminum and pure black finish. The MM 5000 series declares the photographer's individuality; it is eye-catching with special style. It's three accessory feet can be deployed in the leg of the monopod, turning it into a tripod for film changing. Allowing it to be used as a regular tripod as well as a microphone stand. Alternatively, the accessory feet can be fixed to its collar gives a lowest tripod ideal for macro and nature photography.
The P-Pod is also provided with a 2-way fluid head with a quick release plate, which allows the camera to be adjusted between landscape and portrait mode and can be set for low level macro photography. The integral quick release pan head allows the camera to be instantly attached and detached. Releasing the tilt lock allows 180 degrees of movement, with the full 90 degree position allowing rapid and controlled change from portrait to landscape mode.
The monopod has a set of 3 accessory feet stored inside its lower section. When required the tip of the monopod can be un-screwed to give access to the feet, which can be used to make the monopod free standing Simply unscrewing the rubber foot reveals the storage compartment for the accessory feet. Alternatively two of the feet can be screwed into the sockets provided near the head of the monopod, making it ideal for low level macro photography.
Withdrawing the three accessory feet and fitting them to the recesses in the leg turns the monopod into a free-standing tripod.

I bought one of these just before the WTCC at Brands Hatch as a replacement to the rather cheap and cheerful one I had bought sometime ago. The main reason for buying this one is that it extends to a height of 70 inches which meant I didn't have to stoop to use my camera anymore and ended my problems of backache after using my old one for long periods of time.
I've set up it so that all I have to do is extend the bottom two sections and attach my camera and everything is at a comfortable working height as the third section has been adjusted and locked in place so that I never have to touch it again. I would surgest that if you buy one of these is to set it up at home so that it's right, then when you're at your events or whatever all you need do screw on your camera and extend it and away you go.
Using this monopod is very easy and very comfortable as the large foam grip is very comfortable for holding when you're not using it i.e. standing watching what evers going on. The base of the monopod is rounded so you can place it on the ground without having to first look to check the ground. The tilt head is best used slackened off so that you can lean into your shot, or if you're panning it gives you some freedom of movement. There's no twist option with this monopod head, however the base of the monopod will turn so you do have some side to side movement. Unscrewing the base you will find three screw in support legs to make it a free standing support, I've never used this option it's a good idea if you need tripod type of support but it does move around a bit so give it time to settle before taking any photo's. At the base of the monpod head you have the option to screw in two of the legs and turn the tilt head up to 90 degress giving you a prone ala sniper style of support for wildlife photography.
The carry case has an adjustable shoulder strap and makes life very easy for carrying it around as it's really of no weight, however I have found that with use my strap at the top end weakened and split the case, not a major problem more annoying than anything else.
Downsides
Carry case not as strong as it could be.
Upsides
Lightweight
easy to use
Can be used free standing
Can be used prone
