The PENTAX K10D digital SLR features an array of PENTAX innovations including 10.2 effective megapixels and a PENTAX-developed Shake Reduction (SR) system that effectively offers a 2.5 to 4 stop advantage for sharp, blur-free images even under difficult shooting conditions, such as macro and telephoto photography or low light settings without a flash.
Also featured is a newly-developed Pentax Real IMage Engine (PRIME) designed exclusively for PENTAX digital SLR cameras to produce well-balanced, true-to-life images. PENTAX also incorporated a new high performance 22 bit A/D converter to quickly transfer images with accurate color tones and richer gradation from the CCD to the imaging engine.
The new Dust Removal (DR) system incorporating PENTAX-original Special Protect (SP) coating helps keep the CCD surface dust-free, and adds a shift mechanism to shake dust off the CCD. All this is housed in a dependable dust-proof, weather-resistant body construction featuring 72 seals throughout the camera to allow photographers to continue shooting even in dusty or rainy environments.

D-BG2 Battery Grip
Developed for exclusive use with the Pentax K10D, this battery grip can be used in combination with the cameras rechargeable lithium-ion batteries to greatly extend the battery life. With an extra shutter-release button, preview lever, electronic dial, AE-lock button and green button, it makes vertical-position shooting simple and effortless. It also features the same dust-proof, water-resistant construction as the K10D camera body.

Pros:

solid feel, fairly high quality, very good price: compares well with much more expensive cameras. shake reduction in body so lenses don't need it and are a lot cheaper. Adobe raw available as well as Pentax raw (pef).

pentax consumer level telezoom lens limited to 200mm A little noisier than the more expensive cameras. Pentax noise recuction firmware not great. I turned it off. Pentax soft ware requires much more computer power than my 600 Mhz, 500 Mb. 6 year old Dell.

This a very good camera for a serious but price conscious photographer. it has a very solid feel and weight.I t took some very good pictures under very poor conditions: The Costa Rican rain forest. I had to shoot almost everthing at 200mm and then severely crop, Lack of direct sunlight required iso 1600. If I could find a good telephoto lens (mf ok) at a reasonable price it would be great.
When in mf mode the camera has an electronic rage finder equivalent that tells you if your in focus which obviates the need for af if you're not in a hurry.
My previous camera was Minolta 7i with 5 Mp. It took excellent pictures but was very slow frame to frame and had practically no low light capability. It does convince me that putting in all the extra pixels in compact sensors is just a sales gimmick at best.
Olympus is coming out with a 7.1Mp. 28-504 (35 mm equivalent) zoom with iso up to 5000. My pentax gives 28-300 equivalent and up to iso 1600.This gives one furiously to think.

I am certainly not a pro-reviewer and this is my first time at reviewing a product, so I'll make it short and sweet.
The K10D is my very first DSLR and I must admit that, now, I am very pleased with the results. I like it so much that I will certainly upgrade to a newer model when the available $$ will allow!! Don't get me wrong: if I want to upgrade it is because I believe in the product.
It has a "pro" feel to it, it is solid and is compatible with a large number of Pentax (and other brands, i.e.: Sigma, for example) lenses.
The learning curve is rather steep, however, once you are used to the intricacies of the K10D, you will love it.
On the negative side, I wish for less noise at ISO 400 and up, but that seems to be taken care of with the K20D. For the moment, I can live with that.
