Pros: Build quality, handling, image quality, focusing speed, metering. Very tough
Cons: Cost

I am not a pro so don’t need a camera which can go through war zones but this one definitely feels like it could. It handles so well and everything is very fast. The crop high speed mode really bashes them out and is still higher res than my outgoing D2H. NB in crop mode it's files are too small for many agencies. The D2Xs has added a viewfinder mask for the crop mode which must really help. The controls are excellent with the exception of the metering mode dial. But the metering itself and focusing are sensational and the near enough 100% view viewfinder is bright clear and full of information.

I have never enjoyed using a camera more and the results are exceptional.

The high ISO performance is always the subject of debate but the fact is it is very good but the Canon full frames are better at the same ISO. Of course in 99% of circumstances where you will be cranking the ISO up a cropped sensor, with the same effective focal length, will be a stop better anyway so it's about the same.

The only negative comment I would make is that my new D200 fits my needs better than this in many ways and if it had been around when I bought this I would probably have gone that way.

This is a great camera capable of so much but the pro ruggedness is at a price premium that “enthusiasts” like me might not need.

Pros: Built like a tank yet and delivers killer images
Cons: Few to speak of, and nothing that can detract greatly from this pro-level camera

I own two D2X bodies and they're absolute workhorses; the quality of images they deliver is commensurate with a top-line body and I'm pleased to say that, despite all the abuse they've taken in the field, they keep on truckin'

Specifications wise, you're really getting two cameras for your money: a 12.2MP, 5fps beast with excellent image quality and a 6.9MP, 8fps sports and action camera. Mix in a host of accessible on-body controls and a very intuitive menu system and you'll soon find that the D2X can cope with pretty much every photographic situation you can throw at it.

There's not much else to say except that if you have the means to buy one, I'd definitely reccomend that you do so - you won't regret it
