Pacsafe's Anti-Theft Features:
eXomesh® Slashguard panels
Many thefts succeed when the exposed lower section of bags are slashed allowing contents to drop out without the victim being aware that a theft has taken place. Pacsafe have developed slashproof panels by discretely hiding a layer of eXomesh® between two layers of fabric. These lightweight slashguards are placed in vulnerable sections of the bag, giving protection against a bag slasher’s knives and blades.
Slashproof belts / straps / cables
A split second while looking at a map or asking for directions is all it takes to cut through a conventional strap or belt. To ensure your bag stays with you, Pacsafe belts and straps are embedded with slashproof, high-tensile stainless steel wire. All Pacsafe securing cables are made from heavy duty steel wire.
Snatchproof anchor clips / locks
When travelling, commuting or out with friends enjoying a meal or drink, you’re not always able to keep a close eye on your belongings. In an instant, someone can take your bag without you knowing. That’s why Pacsafe have designed products with snatchproof metal clips on slashproof belts, straps, cables or chains. I've been using the CourierSafe 100 since early August of 2007 and it does exactly what it says on the tin: keeps my laptop secure and practically impossible to steal when properly sealed and anchored.
The cornerstones of this bags security features are twofold
1. A steel mesh lining that prevents the bag from being cut open
2. A strap with embedded steel cable which, when used with the combination lock, can be used to anchor the bag to a fixed, immovable object
The main reason I ordered the bag was because I was set to cover the Edinburgh Film Festival in mid August. Having shot the festival twice before, I was acutely aware of the need to secure my laptop when shooting in outdoors situations where I would occasionally have to stray from the position that I'd set my bag down at.
Using the CourierSafe 100 gave me the confidence to leave my laptop secured to press barriers, lamp posts, metal railings, cycle stands and more - knowing full well that someone would need a pair of bolt cutters to slice through the steel cable in the strap.
A practical measure of the bag is that it also has a rapid access A4 sized zip pouch on the rear - large enough to stow non-essential items such as pads, pens or anything else that you wouldn't deem as irreplaceable. This gives the perfect balance between ease of access to items you need in a hurry vs. security of those which you want to prevent being stolen.
