Description:

The latest example of Olympus’ commitment to imaging excellence and precision. The 10 megapixel Olympus E-510 digital SLR is ready to deliver nothing short of the ultimate in professional-grade photography. Live View, a built-in image stabiliser for razor-sharp shots in shaky conditions and a new engine to guarantee exceptional noise performance create a legend. This model features a high resolution 6.4cm/2.5" HyperCrystal LCD, hi-speed USB 2.0, a dual-slot memory compartment for xd-Picture Card and CompactFlash, and a range of 18 convenient scene modes.
The E-510 incorporates a variety of exciting functions that enable users to capture beautiful photographic images no matter what the situation. These functions include a sensor-shift type stabilizer unit based on the breakthrough supersonic drive that prevents image blurring due to hand vibrations. The newly developed stabilizer unit is optimized for the Four Thirds System standard and allows use of any lens compliant with the standard.
In keeping with the "Dedicated Digital Design" that is fundamental to Olympus E-System cameras, the E-510 incorporates the Dust Reduction System and Live View function.

Pros:

great image stabilization, lightweight, easy to learn

|
Cons:
|
needs settings changed for best jpegs and to controll hightlights

I bought this in December, 2008 and transitioned to this after only eight months with a Canon S3 bridge camera. That's my photography history. It was rather painless. The camera is fairly intuitive and easy to navigate. Highlight clipping in jpegs can be a problem until one learns to adjust compensation and noise settings. Shooting RAW eliminates much of it. I've never shot anything over ISO 400 or needed to, so I can't speak to high ISO performance. Love the image stabilization. Even the kit lenses are stabilized. While I still have a great deal to learn about photography and this camera, I've come to like this camera a lot. Technical review at http://www.wrotniak.net/photo/43/e510-rev.html
