National Geographic Expedition Hydrostatic Head RC2
Model No: NGEH1
The NGEH1 and NGEH2 heads are simply the most advanced ball heads in the world, incorporating the innovative hydrostatic locking system to produce an absolute rock-solid lock with the small turn of a knob. Using hydraulics instead of a mechanical approach produces a super-tight lock with minimal amounts of knob turning. The effect produced is a smooth moving ball, but when locked, essentially becomes a solid part with the head.
These revolutionary heads use the latest materials for silky smooth operation and its magnesium shell produces feather light weight. Ideal for photographers using large telephoto lenses, the NGEH1 is easy to operate, with a newly designed large ergonomic handle with precise friction adjustment. A rubber bellows system prevents dirt and debris from entering the ball area ensuring problem-free photography even in the most extreme locations.
Features:
• Independant pan lock for 360 degrees movement
• Quick release system, supplied with 1/4-20" and 3/8" camera fixing screws. For use with standard telephoto lenses.
• Independant tilt lock allows +90/-90 degrees tilt movement. It tightly locks the head with minimal effort.
• Calibrated, adjustable friction control for stability.
Height: 12.4cm.
Weight: 0.7kg.
Max Load : 10Kg

This is a superb head rock solid clamping and no creeping with my sigma 100-300 f4
and d300 fitted. The tension can be adjusted to allow movement but will still hold steady when I take my hands away, then with a liitle twist of the main knob it locks with no movement of the ball. The rubber bellows protecting the ball is a nice touch, wether this will last without splitting remains to be seen. This is my first ball head so cannot compare it to any others, first impressions are it`s very impressive. Although I have said that yes I would recommend it what I am really recommending is the hydrostatic system which is superb. This one by national geographic is a little on the expensive side, If I had known that it was manufactured by manfrotto I would have bought that instead and saved a little money Moral o more homework.
The only upside to paying the higher price for national geographic is you get the rubber bellows: and the feel good factor knowing that a little of the money goes to charity.
