Pros: 1st class in every respect - an elegant lens
Cons: Discontinued!! Rarer than a jackpot-winning lottery ticket!

Yes, I know that Sigma makes a 30mm f/1.4 lens for about 1400 less, but the reputation of the Nikkor 28mm f/1.4 lens is legendary. The front element of this lens was ground by hand by the old lensmasters at Nikon - all of whom are now retired and hence the reason for this product being discontinued.

Occasionally one will pop up on eBay and usually sell for in excess of 2000 - and for good reason - this lens devours available light and makes shooting handheld without flash a joy. Here's two examples

ISO 800, 1/125 sec @ f/1.4 on a Nikon D3

ISO 100, 1/60 sec @ f/5 (for sharpness) on a Nikon D2X

If you have the means to buy this lens AND can find one mint in box, don't hesitate
