Description:
|
A convenient standard zoom lens with high quality optics, a high zoom ratio and good cost performance for use with the Nikon DX Format Digital SLRs. With an ample 18-70mm zoom range that is equivalent to a 27-105mm lens in 35mm format, this lens offers maximum versatility to accommodate tight portraits or expansive landscapes. Optical performance is augmented through the incorporation of 3 ED glass elements and 1 composite aspherical lens that together provide appropriate compensation for aberrations. Through the adoption of an SWM (Silent Wave Motor), the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G IF-ED enables swift, silent AF (Auto Focus) performance with the AF systems of the Nikon Digital SLR's.
Came as kit lens with D70
Key Features
1. Popular zoom range coverage from 18mm to 70mm (35mm equivalent: 27-105mm)
2. Exceptionally high optical performance designed specifically for use with Nikon digital SLR sensors
3. Three ED glass elements minimise chromatic aberration with higher resolution and superior contrast
4. Nikon exclusive SWM (Silent Wave Motor) for whisper quiet and fast Autofocus.
5. Outstanding cost performance

Focal range ideal for walkabout lens. High quality lens for the money

This lens was one of the main reasons I moved from a Canon 300D with kit lens, over to the D70 with this lens as part of the kit.
A cracking lens for the money, that I have only recently sold due to an upgrade to a 17-55mm f/2.8........ which costs a hell of a lot more . If you are after a walkabout lens, the focal range is spot on. The lens feels extremely well made & focuses quickly.
Also good residuals when selling on. From memory I sold mine on a certain Auction site for only £30 less than you can buy new these days
I have listed the new price I could have purchased lens for at the time, as mine came as part of a kit deal.

Excellent walk-around, general purpose glass - the swiss army knife of lenses.
Bought mine as part of my D70 kit and sold it as part of the D70 kit too.
Highly recommended with no bad points at all.

Very good lens. Quick focus and nice allround lens. I have swapped mine for the 18-135mm purely because I wanted a bit more. But this lens is certainly very good value for money. And the pictures I had out of this lens are of very good quality and sharp aswell

Pros:

perhaps the best bang/buck nikon zoom
|
|
Cons:

can't think of any at the price

probably one of the best "kit" lenses at a guess,. everything about it is better than you might expect for the cost
sharp / great colour + contrast (some ED elements) / full-time manual focus override / decent build
sure you can get lenses with a larger zoom range (18-200) and lenses with constant aperture (17,55) but really this is a great lens and at the price is a bargain,.
