Description:
|
The world's first lens with a smaller image circle, optimized for the sensor format of Nikon Digital SLRs
Key Features
1. 12-24mm ultra-wide angle G type zoom lens equivalent to 18-36mm in 135 format
2. ED (Extra low Dispersion) glass elements minimize chromatic aberration to provide higher resolution and superior contrast
3. Nikon's exclusive SWM for swift auto focusing with superior accuracy and ultra-quiet operation.
4. Three aspherical lens elements minimize distortion, especially at the periphery, for superior optical performance.
5. Lightweight design that fits comfortably on compact digital SLR bodies such as the D100.
6. Not recommended for use on 135 format cameras.

The landscape lens of choice for F-mount dSLR's

f/2.8 constant would have been better...
|
|
Intended as the DX format version of the venerable Nikkor 17-35mm, this lens almost gets there but is let down at the last hurdle by being only an f/4 constant design.
This is of little consequence for those whom shoot landscapes and other scenic photographs using tripods - since you're probably setting around f/8 or thereabouts to start with - but it seriously impacts photojournalists who need a robust, fast, wide-angle lens.
Still - it's clear from the overall design and construction that PJ use was not on the agenda for Nikon with this lens and, when used as intended, it gets the results every time.
Until Nikon release an 12-24 f/2.8 lens in a rugged design...
