Pros: Good zoom for a low price
Cons: Only 4-5.6 aperture. Zooming in/out sucks in air, which also means it sucks in dust.

I bought this lens ($179 US)as the first addition to my XT kit with the 18-55 lens. For the price, it has certainly produced some excellent images. It's a good bargain for a zoom lens, although I wish it had come with a lens hood (a piece you'll definitely want to add on).

This lens has no IS, and no USM. The version that does have IS and USM actually costs more than the 70-200mm f/4L non-IS and almost as much as the 70-200mm f/4L IS or 70-200mm f/2.8 non-IS lenses. Why settle for a non L lens of virtually the same zoom for the same amount of money?

For the money, it's a great place to start out for zoom lenses. The 75-300 gives an excellent reach, and in the right lighting conditions can produce some stunning images. If you're using the lens within its capabilities, it's an excellent performer.

The build quality is above and beyond the kit lens, but still not all that sturdy. The zoom also pumps air, so it can be a burden when shooting in a wet or dusty environment.
