Mine is the MKI version of the Canon 200mm f/2.8 L and the only difference being mine has a built in lens hood and the MKII has a removable one. The built in works well with a polarizer as you only have to slide it back to adjust rather than remove it.
I often use this lens with a Canon 2x extender (original version) and the resulting pictures are perfectly sharp. I've never once had a shot that wasn't sharp that I could blame the lens for. I find the non-white lens is often seen by fellow Canon shooters as a less than professional looking and I really like that. When we compare shots after, they're always upset with how sharp mine are compared to their 70-200 versions! I own a 70-200mm f/4 L non-IS and find the 200mm f/2.8 L is slightly sharper... even wide open. Ironically, the tripod mount for my 70-200 also fits my 200mm which means only one of them need camera bag space. Compared to shots with a 100-400mm L, my 200mm + 2x is sharper. (I know that will be hard to swallow for some)
Overall this is my favourite lens. I've used it for portraits, scenery, wildlife, airshows and everything in between. Lenses and bodies will come and go, but this is one that I'll keep for a really long time. A worthy investment.
